BACKGROUND
Golf is an incredibly complex game to learn and play, and for this reason new players can experience significant barriers to entry.
For this reason Golf Australia has two national programs for new beginners - ‘MyGolf’ and ‘Get Into Golf’ targeting junior and adults looking to gain guidance from professionals in developing their golf game.
PROJECT
Design and develop Player Portals for these programs allowing participants to partake in weekly activities and modules created by Golf Australia.
Administrators also need to access the programs to upload content, contact players and check their progress. To accommodate this, we created a secondary portal purely for the Golf Australia admin.
APPROACH
The main function of the player portal modules are to educate new players on basic golf knowledge through quiz’s, track their overall progress on the course through their rounds played and scorecards, and allow coaches to access these results to inform their next in-person lesson. In their current form there was no consideration of the player experience, or variation in ability. While the content of each learning module was set, we leant into the apps UI to add a sense of joy, and gamification to a golfers learning journey. Handy “caddy tips”, and a playful progress tracker were some of the subtle touches of gamification and golf references that aimed to bring a smile to the mind of any player.
We also created a separate coaches portal for administrators to access their players programs, upload new content, contact players, and check-in on their progress. This allowed coaches to make informed decisions, and gain a better understanding of the progress of each of their clients.
